To be at the receiving end of a history of one hundred
and fifty years is a privilege as well as a mission. The
Christ Church has undergone many a transformation during
the period, the cumulative significance of which is the
challenge we are ready to undertake with all earnestness
and simplicity.
The concept of Jubilee in Leviticus 25 is something
which no human community would dare to venture in
practicing the “holiness” codified in the chapter: All
changes in ownership of land are to be identified and
made returnable; and a legally sanctioned manumission of
slaves every jubilee year. The basic issues involved in
these legislations are: ownership of land; and
principles of fundamental rights. Enjoying possession of
land and freedom of community life are to be viewed and
accepted as gifts of God by way of manifestations of the
Holiness of God.
On celebrating the sesquicentennial year of our
existence, let us not cry over guilt and what was lost
but rather concentrate on consequences and new
beginnings. Whatever the Holiness of God commands us,
let us obey it and whatever the Holiness of God prevents
us, let us keep away from it. Let each and all be
mindful of the burden of the jubilee year upon us.
Hence we celebrate the sesquicentennial year as
befitting response to the Holiness of our God!
May God bless us abundantly,
Rev. Daniel George
